FFP2 - mandatory masks
when shopping and in public transport in Bavaria
Markus Söder announced at a press conference that in the Free State of Bavaria it will be compulsory to wear an FFP2 mask when shopping and on public transport from 18.01.2021. This measure is taken for the extended protection of the population against the Corona pandemic.
Community / Mouth-nose masks reduce the spread of aerosols when exhaled - therefore they are quite useful for everyday use. However, they do not provide sufficient protection for the wearer of the mask, as their structure is permeable. Certified and tested FFP2 and FFP3 protective masks, on the other hand, protect the wearer from inhaling aerosols, viruses and foreign substances. Masks that meet the requirement of FFP2-Maskenpflichterhalten in Bavaria are available from us. Follow me »
FFP2 vs. KN95
What is the difference?
KN95 is the Chinese standard for respirators and is quite comparable to the European FFP2 standard - only they are produced in China.
KN95 masks are not allowed to carry a CE marking. This is only given to products that meet the corresponding European requirements.
The KN95 masks can be subjected to a test, the so-called CPA procedure. If the protective effect is comparable to that of FFP2 masks, this is confirmed with a certificate.
EN149:2001+A1:2009
What does this norm mean?
Filtering half masks must meet the requirements of the European Standard EN 149 "Respiratory protective devices - Filtering half masks to protect against particles - Requirements, testing, marking".
The tightened German version is EN 149:2001+A1:2009.
FFP2 masks must filter at least 94% and FFP3 masks at least 99% of the test aerosols. They therefore demonstrably offer effective protection against aerosols as well. Only then do they receive the CE test code.
CE Prüfkennziffer
Why is this so important?
With the CE mark, manufacturers prove that their products - as with medical devices - meet all the requirements of the applicable laws and standards. Only then can the masks be legally sold in Europe. They comply with the EU standard EN 149:2001+A1:2009-.
The CE mark bears the four-digit number of the Notified Body involved. Only a CE mark without a check digit can be a fake.
Each CE mark number is assigned to its own inspection body. You can find the EU list of inspection bodies here »
